In talking to teachers, parents, staff, students, and community members, I’ve had a lot of questions about the election. Here are answers to some of the most frequent ones:
When is the election?
The election is November 5, but ballots should be in your mailbox at least three weeks before that.
Who can vote?
If you live south of Greenbank Farm, you can vote for all three of the open positions. I’m running for the Langley position, but the position breakdown is just to make sure that all five board members aren’t from the same area.
What does the school board do?
The school board is a body of five Directors elected by the general public and two student representatives from the high school. The board does not implement policy–they decide policy and determine the priorities and directives for the superintendent, who turns those policies and priorities into action. The school board also allocates resources, monitors performance, and holds the district accountable for that performance.
